Peter Clague is an Englishman, or properly a Manxman, who has spent almost the whole of his colourful career in South-East Asia. Starting at the age of twenty-one as a subaltern in the British Indian Army, by the end of the Second World War he was a major on the staff of Lord Louis Mountbatten's South-East Asia Command. It was in this capacity that he first arrived in Singapore and Malaysia in 1945.
In Singapore itself he served in the Judge Advocate-General's office, then as a Singapore magistrate. Finally for six years he held the newly-created post of Police Secretary. Whilst in this position, he became widely known for his weekly broadcasts over Radio Singapore of true crime stories taken from the files of the Singapore Police.
On his retirement in 1958, he served as a public relations expert with Shell and then with British American Tobacco up till 1970. In that year he went into business on his own and now runs a unique and successful art and antique gallery in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
