PREFACE
ORATORY, or the art of public speaking, has had its importance right from the pre-historic times. The words of the orators have roused the nations to war and inspired them to achieve supreme heights in peace. Oratory has always played a dominant role in the social, political, religious, and lots of other aspects in the life of nations. In our religious scriptures and mighty epics we come across some of the great master- pieces of oratory. In ancient Greece every citizen had to be his own advocate at the court of justice and so oratory came to assume great significance in the day-to-day life of the people and was later developed into an art. Among the galaxy of great orators we come across such names as Demosthenes, Pericles, Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, Cicero and a lot more, that twinkle like the immortal stars in the firmament of history. Even the later ages are not entirely devoid of great orations and we find some of the finest specimens of this art in modern times.
This book comprises a few of the most popular orations from the ancient times to the modern times and covers a large variety of subjects.
